Health

The children participate in an annual health screening process that includes vision, dental,
speech and hearing assessments provided by specialists in our community. These assessments
are designed to detect problems at their very earliest stages and to recommend follow-up
steps where necessary to correct any problems detected.
A pre-admission physical examination is required of all children and a new physical
examination report is requested whenever the child graduates from one program to the next.
All children receive the proper vaccinations and inoculations. Parents make certain that
the child’s vaccination records are up to date. The Center’s health staff follows up to
remind parents about the proper schedule of shots. They are also available for consultation
to parents and staff on matters of health, safety and nutrition.
Consultation is also available for parents who may be concerned about their child’s
development, social interaction and behavior patterns.

Transportation

Children who are enrolled in the After School or the After After School all require
transportation to bring them from their elementary schools to our Center. We provide
this service to children attending public and private elementary schools in Fairfax and
San Anselmo. For those families that require “Before School Care”, this service is also
provided. Staff care for the children before their school day begins, provide breakfast
and drive them to school.

Early Care, Before School Care and Late Care

Our normal hours of operation are from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. However, many parents’
work/school schedules do not fit neatly into those hours. They often find themselves
having to create makeshift arrangements early in the morning or late in the day.
Therefore, we offer those parents who have scheduling or commute problems Early Care,
Before School Care and Late Care.

Mainstreaming

The Board and Staff of the Center are committed to providing care to a small group of
children who have mental or physical handicaps, developmental delays, or who are from
“at-risk” family situations. These are children who are carefully screened and evaluated
to ensure that they can adapt to our program and that our program, staff and facilities will
be able to meet their individual needs. Such children are accepted into the program on a
trial basis and are periodically reviewed.
The social worker is available to parents, staff and community agencies to assist the
particular child and his or her family make the maximum use of the experience.

Get Well Room

Children get sick and parents still need to go to work or school. Based on these simple
facts, the Get Well Room was created to provide special care for the mildly or moderately
sick child. If a child is ill and should not attend his or her regular center program, or
should not go to his or her elementary school class, he or she may be cared for in the Get
Well Room where more personal care, rest, fluids, light foods, and closer supervision are
provided.
Based on the success of this program and with a waiver from the State Department of Social
Services, we now offer Get Well Room care to children in the community.
