Fairfax - San Anselmo Children's Center

After School

This program provides care to 34 Kindergartners and 1st graders after regular school hours and full day care during school holidays and summer vacation.

We have created an environment which duplicates neither school nor home and which has some aspects of each. While we emphasize opportunities for developing activities which require planning, teamwork and group decision-making, we also provide ample opportunities for individual choice of activities.

We support the child’s elementary school experience and offer help with homework, collaboration with teachers, school visits and conferences.

We also include challenging and adventurous activities, such as hiking, skating, athletics and carpentry. Some of the special activities of the After School are music and drama, swimming lessons, overnight camping, computer club, gymnastics and cooking projects. We expect the children to participate in caring for their environment by taking responsibility for their classroom, the Center and the community.

We include in the program opportunities for the children to learn how to live in a democratic society in which different groups must learn how to get along, to make decisions by voting, to understand minority rights and to be able to compromise when necessary.
